Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format, properly anonymized
    .
  • Citations and references in accordance with ABNT standards and, where available, URLs for references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables captions are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, that appears in Submissions.
  • The images, submitted individually, are in .jpg, .tiff or .png format, have a resolution equal to or greater than 300 dpi and have the Source cited below.
  • Suggested reviewer names have been included under "Comments to the Editor".
  • Inform the role played by each of the authors in the preparation of the manuscript
  • In case the work submitted receives financial support, the Editorial Team recommends that this be informed in the text.
  • I confirm that I have documents that prove the awareness and authorization of the communities whose information was used to write this manuscript.
  • I undertake to make available the data and/or materials I used to write my text, informing them in the bibliographic references or attaching them to the manuscript. In cases where this information cannot be made publicly available, I undertake to provide the data that may be requested by the Journal, knowing that they will be protected in a confidential and proprietary manner.
  • There is a separate file with authorship information: title and authors (with affiliation, email, orcid and funding in the footnote).

Author Guidelines

Editorial Norms

The manuscripts will be received in the categories and specifications described below:

  • Articles: original manuscripts that involve theoretical-methodological approaches referring to Archeology or related areas and that discuss ideas, methods, techniques, processes and results relevant to the discipline. Maximum limit of 8,000 words. In exceptional cases, articles with a longer length may be accepted, provided they are approved by the Editorial Committee. Articles that are being analyzed by other journals will not be accepted.
  • Essays: original manuscripts involving the exposition of ideas and particular points of view on certain themes. Preferably, they assume a theoretical nature, but not exclusively. The texts must have an original, personal writing and whose purpose is not to explore the subject in an exhaustive way. In general, essays do not fit into traditional academic writing. Poetry, literary texts and other forms of narratives can also be accepted in this category. Maximum limit of 4000 words. In exceptional cases, essays with a longer length or in different formats may be accepted, provided they are approved by the Editorial Committee.
  • Translations: manuscripts that are characterized by translations of articles published in languages other than Portuguese and that have cohesion and fidelity to the original material. In addition to mastering the language in question, the person responsible for the translation must have technical knowledge of the Area to which the document refers, clearly explaining all the necessary expressions of that specific topic to facilitate the understanding of the target audience. Maximum limit of 8000 words. In exceptional cases, translations with a longer length may be accepted, provided they are approved by the Editorial Board. The authorization for the translation must be guaranteed by the person responsible for the Journal and/or Publisher where the work was originally published. This must be entered into the system along with the text.
  • Research notes: manuscripts consisting of short texts, in which preliminary results of ongoing work are presented, must have a maximum of 2,000 words. In exceptional cases, papers with a longer extension may be accepted, provided they are approved by the Editorial Committee.
  • Abstracts: manuscripts that present syntheses of master's dissertations and doctoral theses defended in the last two years on archaeological themes or subjects of interest to Archeology, must have a maximum of 2,000 words. In exceptional cases, abstracts with a longer extension may be accepted, provided they are approved by the Editorial Board.
  • Reviews: manuscripts that deal with works recently published in the country and abroad, of interest to Archeology, with a maximum of 2,000 words. In exceptional cases, reviews of a longer length may be accepted, as long as they are approved by the Editorial Board.
  • Interviews: manuscripts consisting of interviews with archaeologists or researchers from related areas with relevant contributions to Archaeology. These should not exceed 6500 words or can be done in video form. In exceptional cases, articles with a longer length may be accepted, provided they are approved by the Editorial Board.

Specifications for the preparation and submission of manuscripts

All papers must be accompanied by an abstract (which does not exceed 120 words), three keywords, in Portuguese, English and Spanish. The title must also be translated into English and Spanish.

The title(s) of the author(s) will follow the title(s) of the work. In the footer, the institution(s) where the work was prepared will be mentioned, email address for correspondence, ORCID identifier and, if necessary, the indication of the institution of the which aids were obtained for the production of the work.

Papers must be prepared in strict accordance with the following order: title, author(s), abstract, keywords (all of these in the primary language of the article), title, abstract, keywords (all of these in english), information about the author(s) in a footnote [1]; Text; Acknowledgments (optional) and Bibliographic references.

The originals must be submitted online, to the following address: https://revista.sabnet.org/index.php/SAB/submission/ and all metadata fields must be completed for the Journal to be indexed. In case of technical difficulties, the authors should contact the Editorial Committee at revistadearqueologia@gmail.com.

The text must be typed using an editor compatible with Word for Windows on A4 paper, 1.5 spacing, right and left margins of 2 cm, top and bottom of 2.5 cm, justified alignment, Arial font, size 12, with pages sequentially numbered.

Cited works should be referenced in the body of the text using the author-date system, in accordance with ABNT NBR 10520:2002 standardization, indicating: last name of author(s), date of publication, cited page (in case of direct citation). Examples (one or two authors): Clark (1975); (CLARK, 1975); Meggers (1979, p. 15); (MEGGERS, 1979, p. 15); Renfrew and Bahn (1998); (RENFREW; BAHN, 1998); Willey and Philipps (1958, p. 18); (WILLEY; PHILIPPS, 1958, p. 18); Binford (1967, 1978, 1983). For citations in the text of manuscripts with more than two authors, the abbreviation et al. should be used, examples: Plog et al. (1976); (AZEVEDO et al., 2018, p. 175).

Direct quotations with up to three lines must be enclosed in double quotes. Direct quotations with more than three lines must be highlighted with a 4 cm indentation from the left margin, without quotation marks, and in font size 10.

The expression our highlight should be added at the end of the reference in cases of direct quotations in which highlights are made that did not originally exist in the cited reference, for example: (BARBOSA, 2017, p. 15, our highlight).

Expressions like idem, ibidem, op. cit and passim are not to be used.

Figures, drawings, maps, schemes, charts, formulas, models, photographs, diagrams, flowcharts, organization charts, among others, must follow the following standard.

Presentation rules:

  • Insert as close as possible to the text to which they refer;
  • At the top of the image insert the type, sequential number and title;
  • An untitled figure is not admitted;
  • Center image, title, caption and font;
  • Use font size 10;
  • At the bottom cite the source (even if it is the author of the work);
  • A figure without a source is not admitted, even if it is the author's own production;
  • Assemblies with several illustrations do not dispense with the indication of all sources;
  • The list of figures should be prepared from 10 occurrences;
  • The automatic numbering control and the automatic creation of lists can be done by Word;
  • Mood board or semantic paper: indicate "Author's Compilation" as the source and insert information about the authorship of the images in a footnote;
  • All illustrations must be referenced.

Footnotes (numbered sequentially) should be used exclusively as notes.

The complete references of the cited works must appear in a list at the end of the work, which must be sorted alphabetically.

References must follow ABNT NBR 6023:2018 standardization. The surname and first name of the authors must be written in full, without abbreviations. The expression et al. are not to be used in references, only in citations in the text (as shown above). Whenever possible, include the link or DOI identifier for the article, chapter or digital book after the year of the reference.

Other information
 
The grammatical review must be provided in advance by the author(s).
 
Illustrations should preferably be in color, with a resolution of 300 dpi. Tables, graphs and other figures, with respective captions, must be numbered sequentially and presented, when applicable, with due author credits, sent separately, with an indication in the text of the place where they should be inserted. Whenever possible, tables should use the same font used in the text, in black and white, in grid format.
 
All images must be presented in individualized digital files, in .jpg or .tiff format, with a resolution equal to or greater than 300 dpi.
 
Manuscripts sent outside the rules defined above will be returned to the authors before being forwarded to the reviewers.
 
The author(s) are responsible for: the scientific content of the work, the translation of the work title into English, as well as the abstract and keywords.
 
Each author may publish up to one individual work in each issue of the journal and one more as a co-author.
 
Approved manuscripts will be sent for final review by the authors, who must return it within a maximum period of ten days from the date of receipt. After corrections, the author must resend the file to the Editorial Board, with the changes marked . At this stage, changes in the content of the work or that imply changes in the number of pages will not be accepted. If the author(s) does not respond within the deadline, the work will be suspended and may be published in the next issue.
 
Once approved, the article will be published in order of arrival. The editorial board can also determine the most opportune moment for its publication.
 
The Revista de Arqueologia does not accept manuscripts in the form of reports.
 
Cases not foreseen in these norms will be analyzed and decided by SAB's Editorial Committee, after hearing the journal's Editorial Board.
 
 
[1] Identification of the authors' affiliations should be included in a footnote. It is recommended that they be described in descending order, for example: university, faculty, department.
 
 
Mailing address
 
The author's complete mailing address must appear at the end of the paper (including city, neighborhood, street, number and zip code). The names of institutions and programs should preferably be presented in full and in the original language of the institution or in the English version when writing is not Latin. It is recommended that, in the submission process, the ORCID number of each author is recorded.
 
 
Special Section
 
Dedicated to the publication of texts included in thematic editions.
 
The Dossier material is evaluated like other articles submitted to the journal, however, it has priority over continuous flow submissions. For these submissions, the theme must always be associated with the theme of the Dossier.
