The Cañada de El Café rock art site, Chuhuahua, Mexico, and its implications for regional archaeology

In June 2015, archaeologists and students from the EAHNM visited the Cañada Del Café site, Aldama, Chihuahua, previously registered by Archaeologist Francisco Mendiola (INAH Chihuahua) in 1996 on the chihuahuan desert. On that visit, they confirmed the existence of seven sets of paintings that had not previously been recorded on the walls of this sedimentary rock canyon. From the above, the Cañada El Café Archaeological Project arose, which registered less than 600 paintings, 15 archaeological sites and lithic material from which an archaic (BC 5000/4000 – 1500/1000) component of the sites, and possibly the paintings, were identified. From the evidence / the pieces of evidence, an affiliation of the area with the groups of the Big Bend region, Texas during the pre-Hispanic period was established.
