Abstract

Understand what makes us humans has been a topic of intense discussion in the last decades. Currently, the characteristic that better sets us apart from the other animals is the symbolic thinking capacity.  Nonetheless, understand when and how the development of this element happened is still an open question. The book allows us to look to the archaeological record and see the construction of our current knowledge about this topic, adding a few perspectives for new debates. In "The origin of meaning – a paleoanthropological approach." Walter Neves, Eliane Rapchan, and Lukas Blumrich propose to review the knowledge built until here, searching to unravel the emergence of symbolism.
