Destruído pelo arado?
Arqueologia de superfície e as armadilhas do senso comum

As informações contidas em sítios arqueológicos de superfície e sujeitos à ação do arado têm sido exploradas de maneira pouco produtiva no Brasil. Faltam ferramentas teóricas para entender a mecânica de funcionamento dos implementos agrícolas na formação dos sítios. A ausência deste arcabouço teórico resulta, por sua vez, no uso indiscriminado do senso comum. Apresento aqui um estudo de caso onde um sítio que poderia ser considerado "destruído" foi sujeito a uma estratégia de coleta de dados e de análise de resultados onde um paradigma distinto do usual foi utilizado. O objetivo é demonstrar a fragilidade do conceito de "destruição" e apontar para a necessidade de se explicitar os paradigmas que norteiam as estratégias de coleta de dados.
