The emergence of black history with the project Memories of the Earth: archaeological heritage of the community of Vila Velha do Cassiporé

The Amazon keeps a diversity of stories that, from two archaeological vestiges, evoke the indigenous and black past. This is the case of the border region between Brazil and French Guiana, in the municipality of Oiapoque where the small community of Vila Velha do Cassiporé, space in which Peter Paul Hilbert, an archaeologist linked to the former Museu do Território do Amapá, recorded the presence of archaeological remains in the 1950s. After seventy years, a team made up of independent researchers turned to study this region again, especially in the community of Vila Velha do Cassiporé. By revisiting places in which it was previously sought to account for the indigenous past, currently they are also seeking to emphasize the emergence of the histories of the black presence in the region.
