Un análisis crítico de la hipótesis Goya-Malabrigo/Arawak y de algunas bases para la investigación arqueolingüística

Este trabajo tuvo por objetivo presentar una evaluación, desde la perspectiva lingüística, de la propuesta de asociación “arqueolingüística” entre el yacimiento arqueológico de Goya-Malabrigo y la familia lingüística Arawak. La conclusión es esencialmente negativa y se manifiesta en dos aspectos principales: en primer lugar, observamos que la propuesta es limitada, ya que no permite ningún tipo de inferencia respecto a los acontecimientos históricos subyacentes a la expansión de la familia lingüística Arawak en los límites meridionales; en segundo lugar, percibimos que la hipótesis oscila entre una caracterización étnico-arqueológica, por un lado, y lingüística, por otro, del término “Arawak”, y se apoya de manera débil en la supuesta existencia de un conjunto cohesivo de tradición cultural (el llamado “ethos Arawak”). En un tono más positivo, presentamos también lo que nos parece ser el enfoque más fructífero para abordar la búsqueda de convergencias entre la lingüística histórica y la arqueología en la investigación del pasado humano: se trata del enfoque “procesualista”, iniciado y desarrollado en estudios de caso particulares en el trabajo de arqueólogos como Colin Renfrew y Peter Bellwood. Concluimos con algunas observaciones preliminares y optimistas sobre ciertos avances que se están dando actualmente en este campo interdisciplinario.
