O povo das águas e sua expansão territorial
uma abordagem regional de sociedades pré-coloniais na ilha de Marajó

Esse artigo examina a ocupação de uma área periférica aos grupos de tesos que compõem o padrão de assentamento típico da fase Marajoara. Os sítios identificados ao longo do rio Anajás mostraram uma maior variabilidade com relação aos assentamentos da área nuclear do cacicado, o que permitiu melhor entender as relações regionais, além de ser importante no estabelecimento da cronologia da ocupação. A metodologia utilizada privilegiou o estudo de feições culturais e a inserção dos sítios na paisagem, demonstrando que é possível investigar sociedades pretéritas sem reduzi-las aos seus artefatos. Os resultados obtidos com a pesquisa somente foram possíveis graças à utilização de uma abordagem regional, enfocando, ao mesmo tempo, as especificidades da ocupação no espaço intra-sítio.
